I forgot to write a blog post about our last ride in Prescott. This time we rode from camp on a series of trails to get to the further reaches of the network. Our ride was 14 miles with 1789′ of climbing and topped out at 6999′.
Today we rode up to West Spruce Ridge and along that til we came to the main Thumb Butte Road that cuts through the area. West Spruce Trail gets up into some bigger trees though I didn’t seen any spruce. It was a bit hazy with the storm set to blow in the next day which is unfortunate because the views way up there were expansive. A sharp left to get up to the summit required a bit of hike a bike and pushing but then the descent back to Thumb Butte made it all worth it. After a short climb up that dirt road we turned left and took Sparrow Trail down. Sparrow Trail is more rugged than anything else and doesn’t seem to get as much use. Several creek crossings later we were back to the Cold Springs Trail.
From here we tried a couple new trails, of which I really liked Butte Creek Trail. It jutted back into a rocky canyon on the narrowest of treads and felt like a secret. We finished off the day with a somewhat technical climb back up Trail 333 and called it a wrap.
Freezing temps, high winds and forecasted rain and snow made us change plans and leave early a day. I can’t sit in a car for very long so we have a couple short drives and night stops before we get to Caliente, NV.
