I saw a flyer for a hot air balloon rally and while neither of us would ever want to go up in one, they are pretty cool to watch. One night we went down to the giant Parque de Vida in Cortez to watch them inflated and lit up.
Hot air balloons are exactly their name. Hot air balloons work because hot air rises. By heating the air inside the balloon with the burner, it becomes lighter than the cooler air on the outside. This causes the balloon to float upwards, as if it were in water. Obviously, if the air is allowed to cools, the balloon begins to slowly come down.
It was a festive atmosphere in the park and we wandered around listening to the whoosh of the propane blasting into these giant balloons.
