The high country here in SW Colorado is still in full wildflower bloom and incredibly green! On a hot day we headed up higher to escape the heat and get in a new to us ride. This one is shortish but sweet.
Starting with a climb up Pass Creek Trail we gained elevation through switchbacks and a nice steady climb. This is high country remember, and we topped out at close to 12,000! Above the treeline the views are seemingly endless. Oh. and the temps were perfect up here! We kept stopping to take pictures of the amazing views and then reached the junction for our downhill on Coal Creek.
Woot woot, this is a fun trail! It’s rated as advanced due to some steep sections, narrow tread and rocky bits. It’s popular with hikers but on a week day we didn’t pass too many. The only downfall of this loop is you have to ride the highway back up about a mile to complete the loop. Durango is an incredibly popular summer recreation spot and these pictures will give you a sense of why.
