A lot of the hiking in the Greer area all looks the same unless you head up Mt Baldy. This isn’t a bad thing since rivers and forests are pretty interesting to hike in. Our last hike was out and back on the Government Springs Trail. I still don’t know why it’s called that.
The Government Springs Trail parallels the Little Colorado River and connects with the East Baldy No. 95 Trail about three miles upstream. This is a lush area. You’ll enjoy pine trees, aspen, ferns, wild berries, and many other shady plants. The hike itself is easy and relatively flat though it is overgrown with willows in places and there are some rocky sections to negotiate.
Overall, it’s a pleasant hike that you can make longer by connecting to other trails.
