The informal trail system in Show Low, Arizona is called Buena Vista Secret Trails but it’s no secret. I think one of the loops is official but the rest seem to be the “secret”. There are almost no signs in this network so using Trailforks is essential to not getting lost. Even then, you’ll be stopping to consult your device here and there.
We rode for a couple hours and did a maze of trails that covered almost the whole network. For being informal, the trails are pretty well designed with switchbacks, twisty sections, fun downhills and some great festive decorations. While there aren’t any miles long climbs, the shorter ups do accumulate.
All the riding is through pine and oak forest and while we didn’t see anyone else, the trails were well ridden in. They are open to hiking and horses also so expect to maybe come across someone else on a weekend. We rode midday on a weekday. Afterwards we stopped in at The House for lunch and beers.
