Our last activity in Cave Creek was a short hike to see a small waterfall. The hike is a little less than three miles and pretty straightforward since it’s an out and back. The destination is Camp Creek Falls. This isn’t a difficult hike and we saw people with young kids and others with dogs.
The hike starts on a wide path right off the road and heads down into the wash. From there it’s a meander through the wash with high rock walls and depending on the time of year, maybe some wildflowers. The poppies weren’t yet blooming when we hikes but there is still plenty of greenery.
It’s doubtful you’ll have this place to yourself. There were a few groups at the falls when we got there and we hiked up to the top and beyond for awhile before turning back and “taking our turn” at the base of the falls. This is a spring fed falls but flows higher after rains.
Watch out for rattlesnakes, we encountered two on our way back to the trailhead.
