We are finally n Washington! Most people don’t know where the Olympic Peninsula is so let me explain. The Olympic Peninsula is anchored by the majestic Olympic Mountains and bordered by the Pacific Ocean to the west, the Strait of Juan de Fuca to the north and the Hood Canal to the east. It is majestic beaches, lush rain forests and rugged mountains. We’re here for the summer. Woohoo! Heading north we stopped to get our and stretch in South Bend, WA and took some flower pictures.
Our first week we are staying in Forks, WA to check out some of the attractions on this side – the Pacific Ocean side. Following the 101 up, we stopped at a few of the beaches before getting to Forks. These are fascinating places of wide open, undeveloped coastline with dramatic crashing waves and rock sea stacks, along with tidepools filled with life.
We hiked down to few spots and wandered around looking at driftwood, sea stacks (big giant rock formations), rocks, and just staring at the surf. It is so quiet out here..especially in spring when the tourists haven’t flocked yet. Forks is THE rainiest place in the contiguous United States, getting about 10 FEET a year. We’re prepared.
Beach Three
Beach Four
Ruby Beach
On our way out to the rainforest one day we stopped at Ruby Beach. All these beaches are unique in their own way and great for wandering.
