While waiting for the snow to melt and the higher elevations to warm up, we’re spending time hiking and riding lower trails. This time we hiked part of Little River in Port Angeles. This trail actually goes all the way up to Hurricane Hill Trail but we didn’t go that far. Even if you don’t hike the whole thing, it’s a wonderful time in the woods.
The trail starts just of Black Diamond Road and drops down to the river immediately before climbing back up and then slowly climbing the rest of the way. We wound around giant rock outcroppings called “Goblins,” fantastic walls teeming with plants, moss, and fungi. The river is always present, noisily making its way downhill, and providing plenty of great views. Fun log bridges cross the river many times for the first 2.5 miles and then you start climbing. If you go all the way it’s something like 16 miles roundtrip with 3600′ of climbing.
We were here on a weekday and only saw one other hiker!
