We rode the first section of the Olympic Adventure Trail a couple weeks ago and I blogged about it here. The other day we rode the next section from the little community of Joyce. Instead of an out and back we did a loop with a gravel road and some pavement. This was a fantastic ride with awesome scenery, a nice lunch stop by the lake, and plenty of sunshine.
Our ride started with basically a 5 mile climb on a nice quiet gravel road. We caught the trail then and it’s pretty undulating for a long time as we wound around. Nothing is too technical but it’s still challenging with the climbing and very narrow tread through the forest. Watch out for deer! I nearly hit two that were smack in the middle of the trail as I came flying around the corner.
Whiskey Creek Bridge collapsed earlier this year and they have been working furiously to repair the area. We came across a work crew, new switchbacks down, and plenty of reinforced rock happening. The hardest part about this trail is it’s really dark deep in the forest and hard to see. But, that kept the temps nice and cool. Opting to take a slight detour to Lake Crescent, we found a sweet little spot for lunch and a rest break.
The next section of trail follows a gravel road for a couple miles before a short STEEP climb back up to the singletrack. To finish off our loop with rode the road a few miles through pretty countryside. Summer is a glorious time of year up here.
