After an overnight stop to see my aunt by Olympia, we drove up and over Snowqualimie Pass and are in Cle Elum for two weeks. With our $30 annual Discovery Pass we can camp for “free” in the forest. We found a nice quiet spot and are settled in.
Our first day we hiked to Snow Lake in the Alpine Lakes Wilderness. It’s one of the busier hikes in the Snowqualmie area so we went on a weekday morning. This hike is GORGEOUS and popular for a reason…it gets to a big lake and has scenic views almost the whole way.
The hike is a mix of forest and rocky talus traverses with switchbacks up and down. I wouldn’t call it easy, there is a lot of elevation gain and definitely bring hiking poles to help. Once down at the lake we picked our way along the edge to a private beach and relaxed eating our sandwiches. PS: The water is cold!
