Our new two week spot by Great Basin National Park provides a lot of exploring opportunities. There is a great short rocky < 3mile hike with some spectacular views, and a lot of dirt/gravel roads to explore too. We’re camping at 6727′ but these mountains are high! Wheeler Peak is 13,065. Not a lot of people know this about Nevada.
Our first gravel ride was just exploring all the gravel and dirt roads around and we managed to do basically a rectangular “loop” that was deserted of all people. Nothing and nobody is out here. Perfect. We topped out at about 7500′ and though it was only mid 70’s it felt much hotter.
If you don’t mind not really knowing where you’re going or if roads you think might exist actually do, then this is your place. It’s quiet out here, and pretty dark at night. We were easily able to see the comet from our spot. Very cool.
