There isn’t much mountain biking on singletrack in the area of Great Basin National Park, but there are a lot of dirt roads that go up into different mountains and canyons. We rode Osceola Road and around Sacramento Pass on previous days, this time we road out and back into the park on the dirt Snake Creek Road.
Snake Creek Road is fairly narrow as it winds into the park past some campspots, historic mining areas, and funky rock formations. Juniper and Pinyon Pine give way to Aspens and Elderberry trees. We saw a rare white turkey along the road and evidence of deer and elk. Snake Creek runs alongside the road the whole way up and yes, it’s cold. Pyramid Peak is prominent for a lot of the ride, but so is Granite Peak. There is a lot to look at!
We stopped off to have a look at a cabin where the tungsten Bonita Mine once was. What a setting! It’s extremely quite up this canyon and we only saw one other couple. This surprised me because there are a few great looking hikes out here. Definitely check this place out if you ever visit Great Basin National Park.
