On our drive to St. George where we are camping for two weeks, we passed Snow Canyon State Park and made a note to get out there to check it out. There are a multitude of paved bike paths all over the area and we made good use of them.
Snow Canyon State Park is a 7,400-acre scenic park tucked amid lava flows and soaring sandstone cliffs in a strikingly colorful and fragile desert environment. Majestic views and the subtle interplay of light, shadow, and color dancing across canyon walls made for a lot of picture stops.
Starting from Royal Oaks Park we rode out Snow Canyon Parkway past new development after resort, after golf course after condos until we got to Snow Canyon State Park. It’s $3 at the booth if you’re on a bike. From here we rode through the park to West Canyon Road and did an out and back on that. This part is gravel and closed to cars which is nice.
After a stop to eat our sandwiches we continued back to the paved road and took this all the way up and out the north entrance. From here we rode the bike path all the way back to the start. This section had some very steep and fast downhills so I was glad we were going the direction we were. I hit speeds in the low 40’s without trying. Wheeeeeee!!
