Seeking to escape the heat, we headed up a little higher above Mancos, CO to ride in the Chicken Creek area. It’s nice because there is a lot of shade from the big pines and aspens. Plus, the cool breeze coming off the La Plata Mtns helps when it’s a warm summer day.
We have ridden this loop before and I really like how fast and flowy it can be. These aren’t big miles or big climbs, though you can link other trails in to make it a monster day if you want. I didn’t see any chickens but we did come across some turkeys. They have to be getting nervous this time of year.
With the exception of Chicken Creek Trail, which I posted about before, most of the trails out here are fairly easy cross country trails but the altitude could get you if you aren’t used to it.
