The weather was a bit dicey looking so we decided to go for a quick hike in the trees. Lewis Creek National Scenic Trail is just north of Oakhurst outside the south entrance of Yosemite National Park.
We planned to hike one direction to Corlieu Falls and then turn back and hike the other way to Red Rock Falls. This wasn’t a long hike because at arrival, we saw a sign warning that the bridge was out to upstream, thus making the way to Red Rock not possible. The river was rushing pretty good and looked plenty cold so we didn’t try crossing the random assemblage of sticks and branches.
We started by hiking out and down to Corlieu Falls. In all, this was almost 3 miles round trip with 633′ of climbing. The trail branches quite a few times but we continued heading down on the main path. It’s very lush back in here under the canopy but mind the poison oak, it’s everywhere!
Corlieu Falls were hard to get a clear top to bottom view of because the river was so high you couldn’t get to a good photo-op. It’s multi-tiered which makes it even cooler. We kept going past the falls until the trail intersected a road and then turned around for the climb back up.
Nice short hike.
