It’s been over a week since our last post and we’ve been busy. We’re along the Trinity River in Northern California. Derek and I raced mountain bikes in Weaverville back in the early 2000’s and swung through on vacation over a decade ago but haven’t been back since. The riding is great!
Big news, we’re in the area to work the summer at a small cafe in Big Bar, CA. After getting settled, we hit up the Weaverville, CA trails for a great ride. Snow scattered across the higher mountain peaks during a storm the night before so the backdrop was extra dramatic.
This trail network starts right from town and you can put together different loops depending on how much distance you want. We tried to stay lower down on the mountain because we weren’t sure how the dirt would hold up after recent snow/rain. There is a lot of shade in the trail network because large swaths are foresty and we never want to ride in mud and ruin trails.
What I like about this ride is there is gentle climbing, and long swooping downhills. Watch out for hidden rocks that like to reach out and grab your pedals. I definitely had a few pedal strikes. The trails feature tall conifers in the subalpine to rolling oak woodlands, from fast and flowy downhill to cross country meander. Great fun and we’ll be back.
