Today was a bit of an adventure. We started out by trying to ride down a back road to get to the dam at Apache Lake but after a couple miles in we encountered a very official No Trespassing Government Property sign and had to turn back. Instead, we rode a couple miles down the Apache Trail to Tortilla Flats Trail. The Tortilla Flats trail is a gradual climb all the way out to where it hits wilderness and then we turned around. The trail is rocky and requires some bike handling skills for the first part and then turns to a rugged double track that leads deeper into the canyon. Oh the views! It’s really hard to imagine we’re in Arizona. I feel like we could be in a foreign country.
Paddleboarding!
The next day was a “day off”. We found a nice beachy spot along the river that flows into Canyon Lake and setup. Chairs, beers, a picnic, books, Fletcher, and our paddleboards. The entire day was dedicated to lounging and paddling. Paddling here was very interesting, so much to see and listen to. The river wasn’t very fast moving so we were able to paddle up and back easily. The rocky walls were dotted with cactus and flowers and the fish were jumping. Really jumping! This capped off a fun week of adventures, now on to more.
You haven’t mentioned missing work, bill paying, loud cars at night.
You’re right. I don’t miss any of those things.
