Alstrom Point boasted having some of the best views of Lake Powell. Lake Powell is low this year, it’s down 36 feet from last year. The Glen Canyon Dam was finished in 1963 which is what formed Lake Powell. Get this, it took until 1980 for it to fill up!
We drove to Big Water, Utah and started our ride after a couple miles. We were in the enormous Glen Canyon Recreation Area still. The gravel, sometimes sandy road was 15 miles out and then we turned around and came back down. It’s a gradual road, I think the total climbing was around 2300′ over those 15 miles. Towards the end we rode through a really rocky section where I easily passed a couple 4X4 trucks that were creeping along. The reward at the end is an overlook of one of the many arms of Lake Powell. Oh man, the views down to the lake were gorgeous!
