I never lose the itch to explore and ride new stuff. This week we’re camped by Kenosha Pass at 9950′ elevation in a really pretty dispersed spot in the forest. A sign is posted that warns we’re in an active bear area, and that moose are around as well. Yep, Derek saw a momma moose and her baby. There is zero cell reception or internet so it’s hard to get a weather report or research rides at camp.
Kenosha Pass to Rock Creek
Our first ride was east on the Colorado Trail right from camp. It starts out on a section of trail lined deep with aspens on both sides. This is a more mellow section than anything we rode around Salida and Buena Vista. The trail climbs gently to expansive views and then drops into a gulch where we crossed over a creek. I never tire of these high country rides!
We rode to the end of the trail where it meets wilderness and then hopped on a gravel road to explore more countryside. After 10 miles we turned around and headed back.
Kenosha Pass to Georgia Pass
Day 2 we rode from camp and did the CT section from Kenosha Pass to Georgia Pass. We climbed the 12 miles up and wow was it gorgeous riding. In a lot of places it reminded me of riding around the Waldo Lake area in Oregon. The view from the pass was unreal with snowy mountains everywhere. Riding back downhill was a blast. The trail was rocky and rooty and fast. This is why I ride.
As I write this I’m sitting in the warm evening Colorado sun listening to the leaves flutter in the breeze. Fletcher just spent a considerable amount of time hunting in the tall grasses and wildflowers, running around like a wild dog sniffing.
