Staunton State Park
Staunton State Park consists of land donated by Frances Staunton upon her death. It’s about 3,908 acres of grasslands, rocky foothills, high granite cliffs and streams. The trails there are quite fun!
We rode a 20 mile loop that had 2700 feet of climbing. From the upper parts you get some great views and really, there isn’t much flat trail in the park. The trails closer to the parking lot are easy and wide and then you get into more techy stuff further out. Chimney Rock was my favorite trail. The trail is rock benched with slab rocks littering the surface. So fun to work through!
North Fork Lollipop
For our second day we drove out along the N Fork of the Platte River to ride the North Fork Lollipop. This day was 21 miles with 2685′ climbing and beautiful.
The singletrack climbs steadily for the entire first half, along a ridge, then through ponderosa pines and fields of wildflowers and grasslands. We added a small loop up top in Reynolds Park and then headed back down what we’d climbed. Rocketing downhill is always so rewarding.
