Alderfer & Cheeseman Canyon

Alderfer/Three Sisters

Today we drove to Evergreen, CO to ride all the trails at Alderfer/Three Sisters. The loop was 16 miles and 2800′ climbing. Most of the riding is through forest so we never really got big views. It reminded me a lot of the scenery in Bend but the trails were way more rooty and rocky. The technical descent on The Sisters trail was my favorite.

Afterwards we had beers at Lariot Lodge Brewery and took advantage of internet access since we have had none for the past week.

Cheesman Canyon

We needed a day off from riding so we did an easy scenic hike along the river in Cheesman Canyon. It’s a very popular area for fly fishing and we saw about a dozen anglers on our 6 mile hike.

Cheesman Area Exploring

Today was exploration day. We noticed Cheesman Lake on our map and we like lakes. We rode up a dirt road for a couple miles then bombed down to the lake. Only, it’s closed to everything but fishing. The dirt road continues around the lake but nobody is allowed on it.

Instead, we turned back and continued on up the steep dirt road that seemed to be going into the middle of nowhere. Perfect. We pedaled on for another 7 miles enjoying the views and turned around once the afternoon thunderstorms started to look real.

Cheeseman Canyon looks a lot like the Rattlesnake canyon in Missoula. Very Senic
