Buffalo Creek
From camp we rode a big loop at Buffalo Creek one day. It clocked in at 28 miles with 3500′ climbing and was A+. The loop went through dark forests, across grassy meadows, along pine forest singletrack, past bouldery mountains and through old burn. There is a reason that 260 reviewers gave this loop 5 stars on Mtbproject.com! I totally loved it, even the climb at the end that was relentless. Views for days!!!
Little Scraggy
Little Scraggy is the name of a rock formation out at Buffalo Creek. The loop we did went from camp around it on relatively new singletrack. Little Scraggy Trail winds around and through cool rock cropping with plenty to challenge you. Once at the very top, the technical descent is a hoot! We wound down the mountain and added on another loop of a trail called Nice Kitty and Shingle Mill Once again, a fantastic ride of 26 miles 2900′ climbing. Good thing we have every afternoon to recover.
Cub Creek & North Elk Creek
This ride was recommended to me by an acquaintance. We might not have normally done it because it took us into Staunton State Park where we’ve already ridden. But, it was worth it.
The ride starts over by Evergreen, CO on an immediate climb. 4 miles with 1709′ of technical climbing with roots and rocks EVERYWHERE. It levels out in places and then pitches up again. At the top we turned left on Elk Creek for a fun descent into the park. This whole part I was nervous about bear and mountain lions and a bit freaked out.
Once we turned around and headed back, I had the downhill in my head, making the climb back up Elk worth it. Thank god for full suspension!!!!!! The downhill on Cub can only be described as gnarly. Yeehaw!!!
