Fresno Rim Overlook

Yesterday when we rode the Epic Trail we rode up through Fresno Canyon and was enamored with the beauty. Today we hiked out to an overlook that put us 700 feet up above where we had ridden. This was a 5 mile out and back + some extra we added on hiking around the cliffs at the end. After back to back days of 33+ miles of tough riding, we needed an easier day so we drove to the Puerto Chilicote Trailhead (4X4 recommended). The hike meandered through washes, down into an arroyo, around rocky mountains, and ends on the cliff looking out at the Flat Irons and down on Fresno Canyon. We actually saw two people today!!!! One of them was a ranger doing minor trail maintenance and Derek and I both got to thinking later about what a lucky guy he is to get to work in such a peaceful, beautiful park in Texas. Enjoy the pictures!

Back at camp, we were able to get some spectacular sunset and full moon pictures. This is a designated Gold Tier Internationl Dark Sky park but not this week. The moon has been so bright that it drowns out a lot of the stars. Hopefully next week we’ll get to see darker skies but it’s hard to wish away that magical giant moon. We took a few pics of camp, so enjoy. It was a lot of work getting all the way out here but definitely worth it.
