Our two weeks on the Mogollon Rim were up and we moved on to a dispersed spot outside Camp Verde. I say our two weeks were up because you are allowed to stay 14 days in most forests before you have to leave or move (depending on the forest). We are pretty diligent about following this but I know plenty of others who definitely are not and overstay this time.
After discovering a screw in one of the truck tires, we decided to get it taken care of right away and made an appointment in Cottonwood to get it fixed. Not wanting to make a trip solely for this, we brought our mountain bikes and rode in Cottonwood. We have been here before and had fun again!
We parked and started our ride from the Cliffrose Trailhead and rode a nice mix of trails into and around Dead Horse Ranch State Park. Almost all the trails are rated intermediate and there are great views of Cottonwood, the hills surrounding Jerome, Mingus Mountain, peaks of the Sedona, and even Tuzigoot.
Prescribed burns up by Flagstaff brought some smoke to the far horizon making for some hazy distant pictures. Hopefully the wind doesn’t change and bring us smoke.
