Derek and I rode here in the early days of our current Port Angeles stay and liked the area enough to ride again. I like the varied terrain all in one trail system. This is not a heavily visited trail system…at least during the week. In our two visits we did not see anyone else, surprisingly.
Starting from the trailhead off Little River Road, the climb up On Ramp and Scaler is consistent. These get moto use so there are some loose sections and gravel but overall in great shape. The climb is mostly out in the open so on warm days it gets cooking. Just about when you are ready to overheat the trail jumps into the forest. The forest! It’s deep, dark, and cool.
We took a wrong turn at one point and ended up adding on a couple miles to our intended route but possibly found a new access point to the trail system which we will explore a different day. The downhills have some screaming fast steep sections and if you’re riding behind someone it can get dusty. The lesson? Ride first. 🙂
