Our last beach day in the Forks area turned out to be a glorious sunny day. We drove to La Push and hiked Second Beach. From the parking lot to the beach is only .8 miles but then you can walk pretty far to the south until the waves crash up against the rocky cliff and you can’t get through. The hike down has a lot of steps to negotiate and can be a little muddy after rains.
Second Beach is a great beach for tidepooling if you hit it around low tide because there are a lot of rocky areas that are exposed during this time. We had the place mostly to ourselves somehow. Do yourself a favor and don’t skip heading south and hiking down the beach that way because nobody is down there. The most surprising thing we saw all day are a pair of raccoons feasting in the tidepools. THAT, I didn’t expect to see.
