Olympic Peninsula has a lot of big hikes and my knees can’t do them close together so we sprinkle in some easier ones. Miller Peninsula State Park has some nice easy hikes and we found a route to the beach. Hikes with views of water are always a plus in my book.
The Miller Peninsula State Park Property is a 2,800 acre forest in Sequim with approximately three miles
of saltwater shoreline on the Strait of Juan de Fuca and Discovery Bay. There are a few different trailheads depending on what trails you are hiking. We picked a route that was a little less than 5 miles with all of it in the forest.
After hiking through the old growth forest with rhododendrons and foxglove in bloom we popped out at the beach. It’s an all pebble beach with views of Protection Island across the strait. Protection Island is a federally protected National Wildlife Refuge; boats are not permitted within 200 yards for the safety and health of wildlife on and near the shores. We listened to the waves, ate our sandwiches, and made the return hike.
