Shambala & Another Snake

Shambala is a mythical kingdom in Tibetan Buddhism and it’s also a Three Dog Night song. For us, it was a trail we rode as part of another day here in Gold Canyon. Some of our day was repeat of trails we rode before, but this was a new to us one.

The trail itself is new and still needs to be ridden in more, in fact, it probably needs a reroute already because two of the steeper hills are eroding. A nice switchback would help but I’m not sure who builds/maintains these trails. Not very far in, I crested a hill, swooped around and down a loose chute and heard LOUD rattling as I flew by. I yelled to Derek and he stopped before reaching the coiled up angry snake. This time the snake was right on the edge of the trail and there was no way to go around because of the terrain and cacti everywhere. We waited while he rattled a ton, but he wouldn’t budge. Derek would take a step forward, the snake would coil and rattle, Derek would take a step back and the snake would fall silent. This went on for a few minutes before he finally slithered far enough up the slope that Derek could furiously pedal by. Phew!

That was the excitement for the day. Oh, and me doing our taxes is pretty exciting too.
