If you’ve been reading our blog lately you know we spent a couple weeks in Canyonlands National Park. I am behind on posting but here is another fantastic ride we did to experience one of the lesser visited areas. Derek and I rode out a 4X4 road to a dramatic overlook of the Colorado River.
This ride starts right from the visitor center in the Needles district of Canyonlands. The road is sand and rock, with high clearance 4WD required and they mean it. The sand made mountain bikes necessary and I’m glad that’s what we rode. It isn’t a long ride – maybe 15 miles total, and a great adventure.
This road has one offshoot but we kept going on the main path until it dead-ended at the overlook. We ditched our bikes and hiked around the rocks to get a view of the Colorado River waaaaay down below. It’s likely you won’t see anyone else on this road, we did see one jeep coming back. I loved the remote and wild feel.
