I love this area for all the rivers, lakes, and trails! Lewiston Lake is a small dammed section of Trinity River that sits just below Trinity Lake. On a quiet week day, we did a big road loop that went through the town of Lewiston, by the lake, and up along Trinity Lake too. Big day.
I really really liked this loop for the quiet roads and gorgeous scenery. It’s a lot of climbing but worth it. We started just outside Weaverville at a pullout for Rush Creek Vista. From here we rode down Rush Creek Road all the way to Lewiston. Here we crossed the bridge over the Trinity River and rode back up towards Trinity Lake on Trinity Dam Boulevard. Check out the picture below of the giant carved wooden buffalo out front at Lewiston Hotel. There were only a few cars that passed us though I bet it’s crawling with people on a weekend. There are quite a few campgrounds and day use areas along this section.
After Lewiston Lake we kept climbing up to the Trinity Lake Dam and then further up along the lake to get back to the start. This ride had most of the climbing at the end which made it tough. The day kept getting hotter and the shade more and more sparse. We did get an early start but it was still warm!
The only thing that could make this ride better is if we changed the start to be at the lake so we could go for a swim at the end.
