The FB Trail winds through the hills above the shores of Lake Keswick with near constant great views of the lake and river from this trail. This is an out and back so you can turn around when you want. The whole thing would be over 23 miles each way if you rode to Shasta Dam and back. It was super hot the day we rode so plan accordingly.
The FB Trail in Redding, California, is named after Francis Berg, a local advocate and trail builder who planned and helped construct the route. We started from a parking lot by the Stress Ribbon Bridge on the Sacramento River Trail and followed the FB Trail towards Shasta Dam. It’s mostly easy terrain though there are some steeper sections. We took a side trail named “Waterfall” but there was no water falling. The lake/river however, did look VERY inviting. I will say that this is the best smelling trail I think I’ve ever ridden. It smelled like flowers the whole way!
After riding out 8 miles or so, we turned around and came back. This time, we took the road across the Keswick Dam for the last mile because hey, when was the last time we got to ride our bikes across a dam? I’ll definitely be back to check out some of the farther up sections when the temps cool down.
