Bear Mountain Hike

The Bear Mountain trail in Sedona as a hike isn’t terribly long at 5.1 miles round trip. It is VERY steep in spots though with an elevation gain of 2044′! The trail starts out gently and then ratchets up with full force. There are rock steps and boulders everywhere. This hike gets you way up to 6500′ and you can see forever. It’s an interesting hike in that you pass through quintessential Sedona red dirt, ribbons of washes, wildflowers, rock formations of all kinds, trees, and views views views.

The name Bear Mountain isn’t to imply there are bears, just that it looks like a bear…though I couldn’t see it.

Speaking of red dirt, Fletcher is now red and brown. Our camp spot opens nicely to a view of surrounding cliffs and he has plenty of space to lounge around and sleep in that famous red dirt.
